From February 15 to March 18, a thematic book exhibition "Tourism of the Future" dedicated to the Global Tourism Resilience Day takes place in the international organizations reading room of the National Library (2nd floor, room 207g).
This is a new holiday that appeared in the international calendar of significant and memorable dates of the United Nations last year. It was proclaimed by the General Assembly on February 6, 2023 (resolution A/RES/77/269) and will be celebrated annually on February 17.
Sustainable tourism, including ecotourism, is a multidimensional activity and can contribute to the realization of the three pillars of sustainable development and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, including by promoting economic growth, poverty reduction, full and productive employment and decent work for all.
The proposed exhibition includes about 100 documents in Russian, Belarusian and English. These are books, brochures, periodicals, booklets, and mimeographed materials.
These documents consider the main trends in the development of international tourism, reveal the concept of sustainable tourism, and assess the current state of the global and Belarusian tourism industry.
The exposition will introduce readers and users to the basics of tourism organization, management of tourism enterprises, as well as various areas of tourism activity.
Among the documents presented at the exhibition are international legal documents, encyclopedias and reference books, monographs, travel guides, materials of scientific and practical conferences, statistical collections, textbooks.
The exposition includes the following thematic sections:
- Legal support of international tourism – international recommendations and standards, regulatory legal acts
- Sustainable tourism and sustainable development: the role and importance of tourism in the economic and social development of countries and regions
- The role of tourism in strengthening cultural ties, mutual respect and mutual understanding between peoples
- Economics, geography and organization of international tourism
- Development of the tourism industry and tourism business in the Republic of Belarus
The exhibition will be useful to specialists in the field of tourism, organizers of the tourism business, students of higher educational institutions of a tourist profile, as well as to everyone who is interested in international tourism and likes to travel.
The development of tourism is one of the priorities of the socio-economic development of the Republic of Belarus. The state program "Belarus Hospitable" for 2021–2025 is aimed at the formation and development of a modern competitive tourist complex, increasing the contribution of tourism to the development of the national economy – tourism is gradually becoming one of the key industries for creating new jobs, economic growth and attracting investment.
The tourism potential of Belarus lies in the diversity and beauty of nature, the uniqueness of historical and cultural heritage. There are more than 15 thousand objects of historical, cultural, architectural significance in the republic, as well as memorable places associated with the names of outstanding figures of world history and culture.
